About Me

My passion for family law began in the late ’90s when I started working as a paralegal whilst reading law at University.  My years as a paralegal were spent practising family law, assisting families and supporting them through family law proceedings in court. I supported many clients going through their divorce and sensitive issues such as domestic violence and child abuse. In 2003, I went on to qualify as a solicitor (currently non-practicing) and continued to practice in family law as well as other areas such as immigration law and litigation.

After qualifying I worked in senior roles in the not for profit sector, and the public sector and eventually went on to run my own law firm, providing legal advice as a family solicitor, assisting clients with their divorces, dealing with people from all walks of life, from the wealthy to the less disadvantaged members of our society.

I loved practising family law, but when I started a family of my own, I began to grow increasingly disheartened with the adversarial approach of it. Most lawyers make divorce a win/lose process, but this was something that no longer aligned with my own personal values – it is destructive to families and comes at a huge human cost.  I wanted to do things differently – I wanted to make the shift being an adversary lawyer to someone who helps to bring people together so they can make practical decisions about their divorces. As a solicitor, I could not work with both parties, I had to work in the interest of only one person, so I made the drastic decision to stop practising as a solicitor and set up my company called ‘Divorce Consultants’. With Divorce Consultants, I can help couples to go through an amicable divorce and my transformation from lawyer to this new role has been profound. It is immensely empowering to work with couples who want to resolve their divorces amicably. To my surprise – most people want to retain control of their divorce decisions and customise their agreements to suit their particular family situation – they just need some support in getting there.

Ultimately, there are some cases that can only be resolved in court through solicitors and solicitors play a key role in these cases, however, I no longer work this way. I only work with couples who want to avoid an acrimonious divorce. An amicable divorce does not need to mean that your legal rights have to be affected, in fact, I always tell my clients to get independent legal advice to ensure they are making an informed decision in their divorce and that they are fully aware of their rights but. In doing so they are not giving up control of their decision but making informed decisions with all facts and legal rights in mind.
